Informed by research, practice, student feedback, and my advanced training in adult learning and university education, I design authentically aligned courses, education & training modules which attend to the evolving needs of the people & communities in which we work. Ongoing community engagement is central to this process.
The purpose is to help students receive crucial education & authentic learning in trauma-informed social work practice.
Students have an opportunity to:
- Formulate a trauma informed plan at various stages of practice.
- Learn knowledge & skills to apply a trauma-informed approach to their practice.
- Analyze implications of applying this approach with diverse populations through a structural lens.
Provides students with an opportunity to explore and engage with interdisciplinary, group-based strategies from structural and critical theory approaches.
The four modules include:
Comprehensive introduction to group-based social work practice
- Family Group Conferencing
- Discharge planning with interdisciplinary teams
- Intervention Groups & therapeutic facilitation skills
To increase health and mental health professionals’ knowledge on eating disorders, what they are, how they develop, impact, awareness of assessment & diagnosis, and interprofessional treatment protocols with aims to increase capacity to provide informed services and reduce barriers to receiving services.

Community partnership with Social Development to develop a Trauma-Informed Kinship education series for social workers to align with the New Brunswick Child and Youth Act. (co-developed with Marilyn Dupre)

Social Work Skills
Community Social Workers led a 5-week coaching initiative for students. Integrated into a foundational year generalist social work course.
Social Action Field Placement
Provided a BSW student placement on eating disorders service advocacy.
